\\ Son of John //

Son of John is a country music duo based out of Castlegar, British Columbia comprised of Javan Johnson and Johnny P. Johnson, a father & son team. With a talent for sharing the stage, their chemistry and harmonies blend in a way only DNA can.

Formed in 2017 as a result of performing live shows together promoting Johnny’s individual solo project, an album called Until You Get There (produced by Tom McKillip), Son of John is gaining success in BC’s music scene, having recently performed at the Railway Stage & Beer Cafe in Vancouver as a finalist for the Truck Stop Concert Series Talent Search (pictured). Before then, they performed at such iconic venues like the Ironwood Stage & Grill in Calgary, and the Roxy Cabaret in Vancouver. They’ve toured BC and AB performing for arts councils at soft-seat venues and concert halls in the communities of Revelstoke, Trail, Nakusp, Osoyoos, Forestburg, & Camrose among a few. They’ve entertained in restaurants & bars in towns like Kaslo, Red Deer, Drumheller, Nelson, Vancouver, Calgary & Edmonton and were part of the lineup at some BC Interior music festivals like Whatshan Jam and Desert Daze. In Longview, AB, the heart of cowboy country, they kept the dance floor buzzing at the Twin Cities Hotel all night long with mostly original music.

Johnny, influenced by country greats like Merle Haggard, Neil Young and Blue Rodeo, is the primary songwriter and brings his vocal talent, harmonica and rhythm guitar to the pair. Originally from Saskatchewan, when he’s not on the farm seeding or for harvest, he’s back in BC writing songs about the simplicities and complexities of his life and the lives of those around him.

Javan as a songwriter in his own right and sharing lead vocal duties, brings elements of today’s country artists like High Valley, Sam Hunt, Thomas Rhett and Chris Stapleton to their sound. Also a multi-instrumentalist, Javan plays and features fiddle and mandolin in Son of John’s music, bending to the brink the genre of modern country by adding elements of folk, roots, blues and bluegrass.

Blending two different generations of country music together, with a flare for folk and roots through their instrumentations, these two songwriters create a sound that is uniquely Son of John.

When not performing, Son of John is working hard to release their debut single to the country music world. Until then, they’re finding fans one by one, online and on the road. Stay tuned.
